Action for Rabbits was set up in March 2013. We are a non profit making organisation.
We are pro-rescue and promote the work of rabbit rescues and work with them to try and reduce the overwhelming number of rabbits in rescue, currently standing at over an estimated 70,000.
We work with other welfare organisations, veterinary centres, retailers and manufacturers to highlight areas for change, promote good practice and make plans for a better future for the welfare of rabbits in the UK.
Aim
To eliminate the suffering of the domestic rabbit and improve welfare standards in the UK. To work with rescue organisations in order to support their work and reduce the overwhelming need for rescue spaces - currently standing at 67,000 in the UK alone.
Objectives
- We will provide the facts that have led to the dire situation of the domestic rabbit as a UK pet.
- We will dispel the myths surrounding rabbits that have lead to this situation
- We will provide accurate information on the correct way to care for a domestic rabbit.
- We will promote and support rescues
- We will provide a resource centre with downloadable information that will support organisations such as schools, as well as in support of our campaigns
- We will publicise this information in order to offer widespread education for the purpose of change
- We will organise specific campaigns to target key areas of neglect and abuse. Our campaigns will be hard hitting and widespread making use of all available resources to us
- We will review current legislation and work towards having it amended to create specific legal minimum requirements for all who work with or own domestic rabbits
